The Rebuilding of Tom Cooper (‘a joy-seeking missile’ Richard Ayoade), and its sequel The Lockdown Diary of Tom Cooper (‘so very funny’ Jenny Colgan; ‘laugh-out loud funny, wise as hell, touching as anything’ Waterstones Staff Pick) are comedies about a struggling single father trying to turn his life around.

The Photographer (written under the pen-name E.S.Blake) is a piece of historical fiction. The book follows Charles Franklin, a Victorian portrait photographer who, after losing his beloved wife in childbirth, turns his back on the living and descends into the macabre world of post-mortem photography. The arrival of a seven year-old girl on his doorstep offers him a second chance at life.
Spencer is currently developing a Christmas family film with Magic Light Pictures, again with Sarah Govett, as well as a new thriller.
